Resuming apprenticeships after a break in learning
Ready to get apprenticeships up and running again? Follow these easy steps to resume your apprentices' learning so that you can build competitive skills at a time when they’re more essential than ever.
3 key steps for employers to take
If you used the apprenticeship service to pause an apprenticeship, you can take the following steps to resume it. Otherwise, you should ask your training provider to help you through the process.
- Speak to your apprentice and their training provider to check everyone is ready to resume the apprenticeship. Your training provider will need to update their Individualised Learner Record (ILR).
- When step 1 has been confirmed, it’s time for you to update the apprentice’s status in your apprenticeship account. Find the relevant apprentice, select ‘Edit status’ and choose ‘Resume’. Only select ‘stop’ if you know the apprentice is never planning to resume the apprenticeship.
- Check the details and confirm the change. Your apprentice will now show as ‘live’ in the service and can resume their apprenticeship.

We've set it to start at the point when we show you how to resume apprenticeships, but the video also covers pausing and stopping apprenticeships.
